INFRASTRUCTURE-FREE FLOOR DETERMINATION

GPS technology is notoriously unreliable in the presence of vertical obstruction, which becomes increasingly problematic when attempting to locate workers in vertical builds, in which GPS modules are obstructed by overhead steel and concrete. While indoor positioning systems offer a solution to this, WorkerSense seeks to find a solution that is able to determine which floor a worker is on without any indoor positioning infrastructure. The BME680, a barometric pressure, temperature, humidity, and gas sensor provided by Bosch Sensortec, offered a potential solution, as altitude can be derived from barometric pressure. A modified WorkerSense TM8 sensor was used to assess the viability of this approach in conjunction with MATT Construction.

The combination of FOV data streams garnered from hard hat-mounted IMU’s in conjunction with highly accurate 3D image sets of job sites allows for the simulation of virtual cameras as recent as the latest image set.

There exists an opportunity for value in which supervisors can remotely inspect the operating habits of heavy machinery on site when operating within close proximity to workers on the job site. Wireless Arlo cameras, mounted on operating vehicles, in combination with worker proximity detection using WorkerSense devices, offer the opportunity to inspect vehicle operating behavior in a remote fashion, at critical times on the job site. Video feeds are directly streamed to WorkerSense Command Center when a vehicle is in operation near active human resources.
